Joe Monroe is vice president of Retail Energy for AGL Resources (NYSE: GAS) and vice president of Regulatory and Market Development for SouthStar Energy Services. In this role, he has executive oversight of the company's public policy function and is responsible for all regulatory and governmental affairs activities as well as corporate communications and community affairs for the company's retail energy operations in multiple states.
Mr. Monroe has more than 25 years of experience in the natural gas industry, working both in regulated and deregulated markets. Prior to joining SouthStar, he held various positions with AGL Resources and its subsidiaries including chief of staff, director of business integration, regulatory affairs manager, manager (Athens, Rome, Milledgeville, Vidalia) and distribution engineer.
Mr. Monroe currently serves as a board member of the National American Energy Standards Board (retail gas segment) and the Ohio Gas Suppliers Association.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Mr. Monroe holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.
He and his wife reside in Atlanta and have one grown son.
