Christa Markgraff was named vice president of Operations for Nicor Gas in October 2016. She is responsible for day-to-day operations of the utility, and meets the energy needs of more than 1,000,000 customers, including ensuring safety, compliance, operational excellence and financial performance. Nicor Gas is a subsidiary of Southern Company Gas (formerly AGL Resources), the largest natural gas-only distribution company in the United States based on customer count.

Christa joined the Company in 1992, and has held previous roles in Operations, Construction, Engineering, Technical Compliance and Customer Development. In her most recent role as managing director of Project Management, Christa worked in tandem with Construction and Engineering to plan and execute the Investing in Illinois program.

Christa earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Valparaiso University, graduating magna cum laude. Additionally, she earned a master's degree in business from the University of Notre Dame, graduating magna cum laude. She serves currently as board chair for Voices for Illinois Children and director of STEM education on the board of the Chicago chapter of the Women’s Energy Network.

Christa lives in McHenry, IL with her husband and two children.
